At Least 38 Killed After Passenger Jet On Way To Russia Crashes Near Kazakhstan’s Aktau

The ill-fated plane was travelling from Baku to Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya but was rerouted due to fog in Grozny, as per reports.

As many as 38 people were confirmed dead after an Azerbaijani plane en route to Russia crashed near Kazakhstan’s Aktau area on Wednesday, officials said.

Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbaev disclosed the death toll while meeting with Azerbaijani officials, according to Russian news agency Interfax.

Azerbaijan’s prosecutor general’s office said previously that 32 of the 67 people on board the plane had survived.

A passenger plane en route to Russia reportedly carrying 67 passengers, including five crew members, crashed near Kazakhstan’s Aktau area, the country’s Emergencies Ministry said on Wednesday.

The Azerbaijan Airlines plane was travelling from Baku to Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya but was rerouted due to fog in Grozny, as per reports. Kazakh media reports claim the plane made several circles over the airport.
